For some, going bald isn’t easy.

Personally, I just noticed I was balding and shaved my head, content to never have to pay for a haircut again. But for others, this can be a traumatizing experience — weeks spent convincing yourself that you’re not actually balding, buying odd products to hide the bald spot, taking a variety of pills to stop the shedding and even leaving the country to get a hair transplant on the cheap.

All of this isn’t even mentioning the fervent jealousy some of the newly-bald feel for those who’ve managed to maintain a full crop of hair. This recently came to a head (lol) for Redditor MindfulDesign, who found himself blindingly envious of a man with a full head of hair. The problem? The man of whom he was jealous was missing arms.

“I listened to a man give a speech today, and all I could think was, ‘Look at this dude in his 50s with a perfect head of hair, lucky bastard,’” recalled MindfulDesign. “I then realized this gentleman did not have arms. I’m so caught up in my own hair loss and obsessing comparing myself to others that I didn’t notice this man was missing his limbs.”

MindfulDesign wasn’t alone in these feelings. Many users in the comments discussed similar jealous streaks against the hirsute among us, regardless of their physical or social situation. “Literally me when I drive past homeless people with a full head of hair like bro wtf,” wrote one Redditor. “I was bullied and am continually bullied for having a big forehead. I’d chop off some fingers for all that hair. Three fingers,” added another.

That said, most of the users advised MindfulDesign and others like him to seek support. “Find a way to free yourself of this burden. However you will. It’s about looking in the mirror and seeing the cool guy again,” shared a user. “I think you are pretty cool and emotionally mature just for noticing yourself falling victim to your own complexes.” How sweet!

No matter which way you shake it, going bald is easier than losing your limbs. But if you find yourself in either situation, don’t fret — at least you’ve got golden comedic opportunities ahead of you!
